The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D Sells Over A Million Copies

The 3DS title we all love – The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D has sold more than a million copies, according to Nintendo. IndustryGamers reports that the title has seen 270,000 sales in Japan and 810,000 sales in the US and Europe. Great news for Nintendo, who recently found that their earnings estimate was grossly optimistic and had to come to terms with slow sales of the 3DS. This prompted Nintendo to slash the price of their flagship portable gaming console from $249 to $169(http://www.fun47.com/nintendo-to-ease-3ds-price/). That ought to help 3DS sales quite a bit, and get Nintendo back on its feet.

Nintendo is going to need more than just a price cut to boost the sales of the 3DS, especially with the PlayStation Vita expected to launch as early as this fall. Blockbuster titles like Ocarina of Time are going to decide that little battle. The Pokémon titles for the console have also proven to be a massive success, with Pokémon Black and White selling 12.87 million copies worldwide. Mario Kart Wii has also sold a whopping 28.23 million units so far. Nintendo is going to need a few more such titles to make the 3DS as successful as they had originally predicted.

PlayStation Vita Coming Sooner Than Expected

We do feel that Nintendo slashing the price of their portable gaming console had a little something to do with the fact that the PlayStation Vita will be coming out in a few months. Great news for PSP fans, though, Sony’s Next Generation Portable may be coming out sooner than expected. Yes, you may be able to get your hands on the Vita as early as this fall.

PlayStation Vita is the successor to Sony’s PlayStation Portable and is orders of magnitude more powerful than its predecessor. It features a Quad-Core ARM Cortex-A9 core processor. You heard that right, four cores that will put that high end smartphone you just bought to shame. It also includes a SGX543MP4+ GPU and six axis motion sensing. Cameras exist on the front and back of the device, but don’t expect to use these for any serious photography sessions. The cameras are meant for face detection, head detection and head tracking. We wonder if it’s going to do any of the neat stuff the Kinect does, were pretty sure it will in the near future.

The touchscreen and rear touchpad on the PlayStation Vita, along with dual analog sticks leaves game developers to come up with new and innovative gameplay features, and we are looking forward to seeing how this hardware is incorporated in future games. The PlayStation Vita is going to hit the shelves in two models, a WiFi only model and a slightly more expensive 3G model. It sure promises some exciting gameplay and beats the pants off the 3DS in terms of raw horsepower. Expect it before 2011 ends.

The Asus Eee Pad Slider Is Here, Upgradeable To Android 3.2

Instead, the QWERTY goodness slides out from under the tablet this time around. The specs are more or less the same as the Transformer, and the Slider maintains the immaculate design we all love. Heck, we think it actually improved on it. It is also going to get an Android 3.2 update when it comes out this fall.

The tablet is powered by the dual core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, which we all know to be an amazingly fast chip. We are confident that this will be a smooth android experience, whether its HD video youre playing, or surfing the web. The IPS display with a 178 degree viewing angle is a big win too, and supports ten finger multi-touch support. Oh, and its protected by a layer of scratch resistant Gorilla Glass, for those people who’s devices are likely to be manhandled (Kids or a jealous neighbor? Or maybe you were expecting it to poop gold and it didn’t?). The cameras are pretty standard – a front facing 1.2 Mega pixel one and a 5 Mega pixel one at the back.

Of course the QWERTY keyboard is built right into the Slider and slides out whenever you need something more productive than an onscreen keyboard. It also sports a microSD card reader, a USB port and a mini-HDMI port. As far as the UI is concerned ASUS has decided to stick with the stock Honeycomb UI. So if you’re looking for an Android powered tablet this fall for entertainment or some work on the go, this is one you should definitely take a look at.

Acer Iconia A100 To Debut in August With A Competitive Price Tag

Acer Iconia A100 To Debut in August With A Competitive Price Tag acer iconiatab a100 launch 300x220It’s raining tablets and phones this fall, with Windows Phone Mango phones rumored to take on the iPhone 5 and a new generation of tablets running Honeycomb to take the iPad head on. Among these, Acer’s 7-inch tablet – the Iconia A100 will be available in August, competitively priced at $300. The tablet is fueled by the Tegra 2 platform and runs Android 3.0.

For those who missed the tablets specs, runs a Dual Core Tegra 2 processor clocked at 1GHz. It features a 5 megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 2 megapixel front facing camera. We felt that the 512 megs of RAM on the device was pretty low, considering the Industry standard for most devices is now 1Gb. The device has 8 Gigabytes of internal memory, which is expandable by 32 Gb (fortunately) via a microSD card slot on the device.

Judging by the specs, we feel that the device is not truly ‘next-gen’. We are expecting the iPhone 5 to come out this fall, and we sure as hell expect a massive bump in hardware on that baby. The Iconia A100 fails to match even existing Android tablets in terms of hardware. Next generation Android tablets should be running quad core cpus and sporting multiple gigabytes of memory. That leads us to question the devices lifespan. How long till the device becomes horribly outdated and unusable? Still, the A100 is the tablet you’ll buy on a budget. $300 is one hell of a price tag, but it fails to get us excited, and it’s safe to say that this tab won’t be giving the iPad3 much of a fight. Still, if you’re looking for a good looking tablet that suck your wallet dry, this should be worth looking at.
