Among these, Acer’s 7-inch tablet – the Iconia A100 will be available in August, competitively priced at $300. The tablet is fueled by the Tegra 2 platform and runs Android 3.0.

For those who missed the tablets specs, runs a Dual Core Tegra 2 processor clocked at 1GHz. It features a 5 megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 2 megapixel front facing camera. We felt that the 512 megs of RAM on the device was pretty low, considering the Industry standard for most devices is now 1Gb. The device has 8 Gigabytes of internal memory, which is expandable by 32 Gb (fortunately) via a microSD card slot on the device.

Judging by the specs, we feel that the device is not truly ‘next-gen’. We are expecting the iPhone 5 to come out this fall, and we sure as hell expect a massive bump in hardware on that baby. The Iconia A100 fails to match even existing Android tablets in terms of hardware. Next generation Android tablets should be running quad core cpus and sporting multiple gigabytes of memory. That leads us to question the devices lifespan. How long till the device becomes horribly outdated and unusable? Still, the A100 is the tablet you’ll buy on a budget. $300 is one hell of a price tag, but it fails to get us excited, and it’s safe to say that this tab won’t be giving the iPad3 much of a fight. Still, if you’re looking for a good looking tablet that suck your wallet dry, this should be worth looking at.
