Liquid Repellent Technology Coming to Samsung Galaxy S3?

Liquid Repellent Technology Coming to Samsung Galaxy S3? phone+in+water 300x265In most recent news, it looks like Samsung Galaxy S3 will be getting water repellent technology by P2i. P2i is a company which makes “Liquid Repellent Nano-Coating Technology & Industrial Coatings”. P2i is in talks with Korean smartphone giants, to supply them with liquid repellent nano-coating technology.

P2i’2 COO Eric Cohill has also said “There is major interest from carriers in the US to discuss criteria to help against water ingestion for customers.” The company is also interested in creating a standard of performance (water-repellent) for smartphone manufacturers, “We’re working with major carriers to create a standard of performance which can give OEMs something to work to when creating smartphones.”

How are they doing it?

P2i’s technology has only been implemented by Motorola (in Xoom 2) so far. It is important to note that it is water repellent technology, not a waterproof technology. Their technique implements nano-coating technology, which(nano-coating) is approximately 1000 times thinner than a human hair. The liquid repellent nano-coating helps to save the electronics from accidental splashes and spills.

Use of this technology, is expected to help OEMs (Original equipment manufacturers) to reduce repair costs due to liquid getting inside the electronics.

Who’s interested?

As already mentioned, P2i is working with Korean giants to bring this technology to the market. P2i in the interview has also mentioned that they’re also in talks with some ‘fruity companies’ ( Any guesses? Liquid Repellent Technology Coming to Samsung Galaxy S3? icon wink ).

The Samsung Galaxy S3 is really creating buzz around the smartphone community and it would not be wrong to say that it too, might get water-repellent technology. Samsung Galaxy S3‘s confirmed ‘official’ feature list is yet to be released on the internet. Though, it is speculated to come with 1.8GHz quad-core processor, TouchWiz 5, 12MP camera and much more!

If this technology becomes a standard, the smartphone market will really get exciting. What’s your opinion about this? Do leave a comment below!
