The Motorola DROID BIONIC for Verizon has finally received its 5.9.905 OTA update officially, for those keeping scores at home this is the same update which got leaked quite a few months ago.
The update makes a few adjustments to the software making it more user friendly, few of the most noticed changes include recalibrated volume of the call connect and disconnect tones, Improved Visual Voice Mail to ensure delivery of a notification to the Status Bar, etc.
The Motorola DROID Bionic 5.9.905 OTA update also reduces data stalls as a result of the 4G LTE connectivity gets improved drastically.
But here is where the good list ends. The update has a few downsides too for instance, if you are one of those people whose Motorola DROID runs on the 5.9.904 leak then this update is not for you, to get the 5.9.905 update you would have to go back to 5.9.902 (which is a real pain).
And even if you are already on 5.9.902 system then to get the OTA update it must be Stock, unmodified, and undebloated. However, it doesn’t matter if the device is rooted or not.
If somehow you are not getting the update notification then here is how you can do the update manually.
STEP 1–> Download the update onto your external sd-card from here.
STEP 2–> Switch off your Motorola DROID Bionic.
STEP 3–> Hold down both volume buttons, then press power button.
STEP 4–> Select recovery( use the volume buttons to navigate).
STEP 5–> Select “apply update” and then select the file downloaded in step 1
STEP 6–> Reboot.
STEP 7–> Enjoy your Motorola DROID Bionic 5.9.905 OTA Updated smartphone.
NOTE: As mentioned earlier this update is only for those users whose whose Motorola DROID Bionic still runs on the unmodified/undebloated stock 5.9.902 ROM. If you are a 5.9.904 leak user and want to receive the update then read the guide to do so here. Since the update is a real battery drainer we highly recommend you to fully charge your DROID to 100% before doing the update, instead of the ususal 60%.
