Nokia N9 Running MeeGo Shown Off on Promotion Video

Nokia N9 Running MeeGo Shown Off on Promotion Video Nokia N9

No multi-million dollar deal can stop Nokia from releasing its latest flagship phone carrying a new OS – the long awaited MeeGo! The Nokia N9, which just passed FCC a week before, looks even more alluring as promotion video of the phone somehow got into the hands of Pocketnow.  What exactly does the video show?

The slick smartphone from Nokia was shown attractively on the promotional video. You can spot almost everything what makes the device drool-worthy – for a Nokia phone that is – which includes the physical QWERTY keyboard, 12-megapixels rear camera with Carl Zeiss optics that come with LED flash and autofocus.

You can easily confuse the trailer for another brand though, as it flashes the tagline “Our Next Sense”. Of course, some Taiwanese brand has been using the Sense tagline for a while now – but we shall not judge until we see more of the N9.

Considering the last MeeGo device didn’t fare too well, Nokia will be pinning its hope on the N9 to score some moderate success in US soil. We fail to see how the company can excite the already saturated market though. Maybe there’s life once the Nokia-ified Windows Phones are out. If there’s anything to learn about the smartphone business is never to count out a company. Just look at Motorola now.

HTC Makes it Hard to Mod HTC Sensation; Demo Video Released

HTC Makes it Hard to Mod HTC Sensation; Demo Video Released Sensation 4G 300x168There’s some good news about the HTC Sensation – and there’s some equally bad news. Nothing too upsetting, mind you. To start off, we’ll start with the bad news.

Like many phones before the Sensation, it’s not uncommon for the software to precede the hardware from being released – whether unofficially or not. AndroidPolice has done some digging of the HTC Sensation’s system dump – and apparently the bootloader is locked and signed. To mess around with the ROM, developers will need that special key from HTC.

This doesn’t mean that there won’t be any custom ROMs for the HTC Sensation. It’s just going to take folks longer to first crack the protection system.

As for the good news, the Sensation is shaping up to be quite the super phone that we all thought it’d be. To drum up interest, HTC has posted a video showcasing the many abilities of the phone. And many it does have – from the new Sense 3.0 with active lockscreen, to the phone maker’s new HTC Watch that streams movies and TV shows to the device.  With a 1.2GHz dual core processor on board, it seems very promising.

Okay, maybe we’re less than thrilled that HTC aren’t really following Samsung’s trail of releasing source code of their phones. They even released it for the flagship Galaxy S II. But since it’s HTC, we’ll overlook this one mishap.
