The Asus Eee Pad Slider Is Here, Upgradeable To Android 3.2

The Asus Eee Pad Slider Is Here, Upgradeable To Android 3.2 20110729 a1 300x205Imagine the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer, only without you carrying around the funky dock accessory to go with it (not that we are complaining, the dock is awesome). Instead, the QWERTY goodness slides out from under the tablet this time around. The specs are more or less the same as the Transformer, and the Slider maintains the immaculate design we all love. Heck, we think it actually improved on it. It is also going to get an Android 3.2 update when it comes out this fall.

The tablet is powered by the dual core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, which we all know to be an amazingly fast chip. We are confident that this will be a smooth android experience, whether its HD video youre playing, or surfing the web. The IPS display with a 178 degree viewing angle is a big win too, and supports ten finger multi-touch support. Oh, and its protected by a layer of scratch resistant Gorilla Glass, for those people who’s devices are likely to be manhandled (Kids or a jealous neighbor? Or maybe you were expecting it to poop gold and it didn’t?). The cameras are pretty standard – a front facing 1.2 Mega pixel one and a 5 Mega pixel one at the back.

Of course the QWERTY keyboard is built right into the Slider and slides out whenever you need something more productive than an onscreen keyboard. It also sports a microSD card reader, a USB port and a mini-HDMI port. As far as the UI is concerned ASUS has decided to stick with the stock Honeycomb UI. So if you’re looking for an Android powered tablet this fall for entertainment or some work on the go, this is one you should definitely take a look at.

Asus Eee Pad Transformer Availability Update

Asus Eee Pad Transformer Availability Update eeetransformer 300x250The Asus Eee Pad Transformer was officially launched last month and took the market by storm, thanks to its pricing. The $400 price-tag set a new price barrier for Honeycomb tabs and has given a tough fight to its competitors – especially the Motorola Xoom, which essentially comes with identical specs and costs $200 more.

The response was overwhelming as ASUS’ retail partners sold out the initial stock in hours, if not minutes, leaving thousands of enthusiastic customers hunting desperately for the device – something that was unforeseen by ASUS. The wait should soon be over as ASUS has taken necessary steps to increase the production and are supposedly on their way to manufacture about 300,000 units of the Eee Pad Transformer by the end of June.

Many, if not the most who have sought after the tablet still haven’t gotten their hands to the tab of their dream, so here are some of the places you may purchase the tab from.

  • Amazon retailers are selling the tab but with a catch – you’re going to pay a little more than the introductory price. Detailers like Target, DataVision, and many more have teamed up with Amazon and are offering the tablet for about $50 more. If you’re lucky enough, you might be able to get it for about $420.
  • TigerDirect is offering the tab for $430 as well (the extra $30 we presume for the HDMI cable and screen cleaner gel – which should come in handy).
  • Buy.com, just like some Amazon retailers, is offering the tab for an additional 50 bucks or so.

Retailers like BestBuy, WalMart, K-mart and a few others were able to restock but as expected they sold out soon after. ASUS better hurry up and ship as many units as possible as they do have a great deal of competition coming up with the Galaxy Tab 10.1’s imminent arrival and other comparable Honeycomb tabs.

It may also be worth noting that some retailers, while showing out of stock on their webstores, may have the device in stock at their retail outlets, so it may be worth the trouble to give them a call to ask about the availability or in some cases actually stopping by a local outlet before making your decision.

Best Buy Resumes Selling the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer

Best Buy Resumes Selling the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer EEE pad transformer 300x266If you’ve been following the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer for a while, you probably know it is too hard to get your hands on one — unless you’re willing to pay an extra hundred or so, which honestly ruins the whole deal. For those who’ve been waiting eagerly to get their hands on one of the Transformers, we’ve got some great news for you — the device is now available in stock at BestBuy!

The device was released last month on 26th but was sold out on the same day everywhere almost overnight. Ever since then, buying the Asus Transformer has been an improbable option, so if you want one, you’ll have to act soon because history would suggest the stock would more than likely be sold out soon.

For only $400, you’ll receive a dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 powered Honeycomb tablet that packs some impressive hardware like a 10.1 inch IPS touch-screen display (protected by Gorilla Glass), 1GB of RAM, 16GB of hard drive and pretty much everything else the $600 Motorola Xoom offers.

We’re not really sure how much stock they have left but this seems to be one of the longest time (if not the longest) an online retailer has shown the Transformer in stock — perhaps an indication of ASUS taking the bull by the horns and ramping up the production? We’ll keep our fingers crossed.
