Is That Motorola Droid Bionic Making Its Way to FCC?

It has been a long and winding road that’s filled with delay and rumors of cancellation, but Motorola Droid Bionic finally made its way to the hands of FCC.  While reports didn’t explicitly mention the Droid Bionic, this is what most assumed from what information can be gathered.

Is That Motorola Droid Bionic Making Its Way to FCC? Droid Bionic FCC

The device in question, which has just received the green light from FCC, is of a cellular communications device from Motorola with EVDO and LTE 700MHz radios. The device comes with WiFi and Bluetooth, as well as an inductive charging battery.

There’s really not much else to decipher from the image, but rumors seem to point that the Motorola Droid Bionic may ship with a huge 4.5-inch screen. Coupled with the LTE information above – this should make the Droid Bionic a worthy adversary to Motorola’s own Droid 3, which will hit stores on July 14. The latter, in case you missed the memo, will not be shipping with 4G LTE. We guess it’s all about options – much like what Samsung is doing with its Galaxy series.

As for the supposed shipping date of the Motorola Droid Bionic, people are expecting Motorola to divulge some of that information next month. Until then, we will keep this phone under our radar.

Motorola Droid Bionic Appears on Nenamark Benchmarking Site, Runs PowerVR GPU

Motorola Droid Bionic Appears on Nenamark Benchmarking Site, Runs PowerVR GPU Droid Bionic1 300x241It appears we haven’t seen the last of Motorola Droid Bionic. Despite reports of a possible name change in the past and the fact that the phone has been delayed – it now pops up at one benchmarking site. Just how well did the supposed Droid Bionic do on the benchmark test?

As posted on Nenamark, here’s where thing gets a little bit fuzzy. The phone only received a single digit score of 24, unlike the norm where phones usually get a reading of low, average and high. Some speculate that the benchmark test was canceled abruptly – though it still warrants a score to be given out.

That’s not all the details that the site managed to get from the Droid Bionic. Apparently, the tested device used a PowerVR SGX 540 GPU – not the previously reported Tegra 2 processor. The PowerVR GPU is the perfect match for dual-core processors offering from Texas Instruments that Motorola has been using for some of its newer devices.

The tested Droid Bionic was also spotted running Android 2.3 Gingerbread, so there will be none of those waiting for a Gingerbread upgrade like the Droid X2.

It’s not yet confirmed that Motorola will stick to the Droid Bionic name. But the company did say that it will come – in one form or another – soon.

Apple to Utilize Curved Glass for iPhone 5?

Trust DigiTimes to get people abuzz with some news on the upcoming iPhone 5. Thanks to their ever-resourceful tipster, we get an unconfirmed glimpse of what the future phone would look like. According to the report, Apple will ditch regular cover glass the company has used for previous iterations of the iPhone. The future is in curved glass a la the Samsung Nexus S.

Apple’s attempt to move the iPhone 5 into a new territory unfortunately hit an early speed bump – as the high cost of investing in the glass cutting equipment has apparently put off manufacturers. To deal with the slight hiccup, Apple has reportedly purchase glass cutting machines by the hundreds, with the purpose of pushing the production of the curved glass.

For now, the machines are still under vigorous testing – so we won’t be seeing curved iPhone 5 anytime soon.

We’re somewhat unexcited about this particular unconfirmed news. If it’s actually accurate, it’d be interesting to see Apple following Samsung’s route. We wonder if Samsung will try to raise this issue in court to their advantage.

Remember guys, some rumors also said that there won’t be an iPhone 5 this year – but we may be getting an iPhone 4S. Maybe Apple needs more time to fine tune the curved glass technology, which could extend all the way to next year.

Leaked iPhone 5 Parts Indicate Relocated Camera & Flash

Photos of the new iPhone 5 cases were leaked over the weekend which hinted towards a relocated camera (towards the top left edge of the phone) and a relocated flash (towards the top right edge of the phone), which is a change from the location of camera and flash in iPhone 4.

The iPhone 5 cases leak was first reported by GadgetsDNA from Kulcase, which were found on Alibaba.com (biz to biz trading for Chinese manufacturers & suppliers). The leaked cases have two holes at the back, and thinner and wider body, pointing to iPhone 5.

Another leaked screenshot by Apple.pro compares the front and rear camera components of the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4. The iPhone 5 cameras looks much more relocated when compared to the iPhone 4 side-by-side. There’s not much details about the cameras in the new generation iPhone except for the relocation. Perhaps the new phone will have a camera with greater pixels and improved photo capture? That’s up for Apple to decide. Increasing the size of the screen seems like a possible change too, as most of the smartphones now feature big screens.

There’s also another rumor which says that the new generation iPhone will be named iPhone 4S instead of iPhone 5. Right now, it’s all just speculation and Apple might yet again surprise people by naming the phone differently.
