The Asus Eee Pad Slider Is Here, Upgradeable To Android 3.2

The Asus Eee Pad Slider Is Here, Upgradeable To Android 3.2 20110729 a1 300x205Imagine the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer, only without you carrying around the funky dock accessory to go with it (not that we are complaining, the dock is awesome). Instead, the QWERTY goodness slides out from under the tablet this time around. The specs are more or less the same as the Transformer, and the Slider maintains the immaculate design we all love. Heck, we think it actually improved on it. It is also going to get an Android 3.2 update when it comes out this fall.

The tablet is powered by the dual core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, which we all know to be an amazingly fast chip. We are confident that this will be a smooth android experience, whether its HD video youre playing, or surfing the web. The IPS display with a 178 degree viewing angle is a big win too, and supports ten finger multi-touch support. Oh, and its protected by a layer of scratch resistant Gorilla Glass, for those people who’s devices are likely to be manhandled (Kids or a jealous neighbor? Or maybe you were expecting it to poop gold and it didn’t?). The cameras are pretty standard – a front facing 1.2 Mega pixel one and a 5 Mega pixel one at the back.

Of course the QWERTY keyboard is built right into the Slider and slides out whenever you need something more productive than an onscreen keyboard. It also sports a microSD card reader, a USB port and a mini-HDMI port. As far as the UI is concerned ASUS has decided to stick with the stock Honeycomb UI. So if you’re looking for an Android powered tablet this fall for entertainment or some work on the go, this is one you should definitely take a look at.

Motorola Droid X2, LG Revolution, and Xperia Play Prepping for Verizon

Motorola Droid X2, LG Revolution, and Xperia Play Prepping for Verizon Verizon 300x197If there’s ever a perfect time to upgrade your Android phone – you may want to check Verizon stores next week – specifically around May 26. The carrier is pushing hard for Android phones in the market this month, as it plans to release the Motorola Droid X2, LG Revolution and Sony Ericsson Xperia Play.

The Motorola Droid X2 is of course the successor to the Droid X. While physically it looks similar, there’s a new dual core 1GHz processor and a new 540×960 resolution on its 4.3-inch screen. The dummy units of the phone have been spotted as early as last week, so the release of the phone is imminent. It’s odd that Motorola and Verizon haven’t released any official confirmation though – but all signs point to a May 26 release.

Meanwhile, LG Revolution is set to join the Android party on May 25 – as the release date of the phone was leaked. The phone has a 4.3-inch screen, 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 5-megapixels rear camera and the desirable 4G LTE connectivity. The leaked inventory from Best Buy may just reveal the phone’s off-contract price of $700.

If the two phones above haven’t been officially confirmed, such isn’t the case with the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play. You can definitely get the phone on Verizon stores starting May 26.

The dual-core qHD is certainly anticipated by a lot of people, though Verizon does not seem much interested in doing an official launch of the phone, leaving it to people like us to report the launches.

Another leaked screenshot of the phone claimed its technical specifications such as 4.3″ qHD display, 1Ghz dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, 512 MB RAM, 8-megapixel camera with 720p HD recording and Adobe Flash Player 10 (well this one comes with every Android gadget).

The phone also has 1080p output, 8GB of internal storage, also comes with a pre-installed 8GB SD card and a 1540mAh battery (phone should have a decent battery backup). The Droid X2 will also come with the goodness of Android 2.3 “Gingerbread” (doesn’t make sense to use Froyo, does it?). The keyboard will also support Swype input.

Weighing only 155.07gm, and a screen resolution of 960x540px the X2 is sure to win some hearts. The phone is also only expected to come in black colour according to the screenshots, a different coloured version might be available later on.

This doesn’t end here, though, as there is one more leaked screenshot that confirms other technical specs such as dual LED flash, camera with continuous autofocus. The power is placed at the top center of the phone, and the volume control button at the right.
